Everything about this house was grand except for the kitchen. In order to expand for a modern, eat-in, gourmet kitchen off the back of the house, we had to remove the lower portion of the chimney and support it with a steel beam. The original kitchen and adjoining room were structurally compromised and needed new joists and framing to receive the addition. The addition has large custom windows that connect the new kitchen with the garden while linking the old house with the new.
